Platis Gialos Beach
Platis Gialos, located on the southern part of the island, is an organized beach, and is the most renowned of the island. It spans about a kilometer and is draped with lounge chairs and parasols. Being encompassed by numerous trees, the beach offers ample natural shade to provide for a pleasant day at the beach. Families can enjoy lots of activities here, including water sports for all ages.
Take the time to trek to the top of the hill for special site. Here stands Panagia tou Vounou Church (Church of the Virgin Mary of the Mountain) that provides spectacular picturesque views of the sea. Chrissopigi Beach is one of the most attractive spots on Sifnos Island, situated just south of Faros. Vathi Beach (Vathy Beach)
Vathi Beach is located on the south-western part of Sifnos Island. This is an ideal beach for families with its shallow crystal waters and golden sand that stretches a kilometer. The amenities on the beach will make for a pleasant stay by the sea all day and into the evening. Trees lining the beach provide good shade to keep you cool on the very hot summer days, and there are restaurants, bars and cafes for refreshing drinks and great meals. Be sure to take in the most notable site of the area, the Church of Taxiarches, located in front of the port.
Faros Beach is located on the southeastern side of the island of Sifnos. This scenic, rather small beach has very calm but deep waters. As such, it is not highly recommended for families with young children. There is lush greenery for shade and lots of taverns for enjoyable dining, as well as nearby accommodations. Nearby lies the Fasoulos Cove and the Glyfos Cove, both of which offer clear, emerald-green waters that are peaceful and calm and perfect for kids.
Heronissos Beach is located in a small fishing village toward the northern part of the island of Sifnos. It’s a great spot, renowned for its raw beauty. The beach is smallish, only about 200 meters or so, and is blanketed in golden sand and lined with shady trees. It’s a relatively quiet setting, quite different from the busier beaches on Sifnos. The bay offers great swimming for every age as well as local taverns serving local specialties. You’ll also be able to purchase food and drinks at the nearby mini-market. For souvenirs that are true to the island, a quaint pottery shop sells exceptional handmade ceramic goods.
Vroulidia Beach is about 4 km from Heronissos Village, on the northern tip of the island. It is a tranquil and beautiful beach with shallow waters ideal for families. However, during windy days, it should be avoided as the strong winds could be dangerous for young children. The fish tavern near the beach provides excellent Greek dishes and cold drinks. There’s also a bar in the area, too.
Kamares Beach is located on the western part of the island, not far from the port. The shallow waters make it a favorite among families. It is considered to be one of the cleanest, clearest beaches of all, and also one of the longest of the island. It is covered in golden sand and is surrounded by natural beauty, and offers a variety of water sports for all ages. As it is an organized beach, you can enjoy the parasols and lounge chairs for a more comfortable day at the beach. Local taverns and bars provide great meals and refreshing drinks.
To the left of Chrissopigi, just 2 km from the capital of Sifnos, Apollonia, is the picturesque bay of Apokoftos. This white pebble and sand beach is a favorite among locals and tourists. However, it is a tranquil and relaxed place to spend the day. Taverns overlook the beach and the impressive rock where the Monastery of Chrissopigi stands.
