When you make your way to the Greek Islands, be prepared for anything, from celebrities to wildlife and everything in between. No matter which of the magical islands you visit, you’re destined to have a great time. Here are 3 fun things to do in Skopelos Island, or Σκόπελος in Greek, an in the Northern Sporades.
Play Meryl Streep in Kastri
Kastri is a village, surrounded by forest, just outside of Agios Yiannis, with quaint houses and a small white church sitting atop a rock. When you get there, you will feel like you’re on your way to the Mamma Mia! Wedding from the 2008 film. This is where the scenes were filmed! If you want to see beautiful views, make your way up the 105 twisting steps across from the main beach.
Spend Time with Dolphins in Alonnisos National Marine Park
If you want to see dolphins during your travels, make your way to the National Marine Park, located on the island of Alonnisos, just offshore of Skopelos. You will spot, not only dolphins swimming in the sea, but also monk seals, a breed facing extinction. Just get on an excursion boat from Skopelos, and keep an eye out for dolphins swimming with your ship!
Relax on Panormos Beach
This pebbled beach may seem very quiet, at first look, but you’re sure to appreciate the collection of tavernas sitting just behind it, and playing low, but audible music to set the mood. The crystal-clear waters don’t hurt, and are lovely for swimmers and snorkelers, alike. Panormos Beach can be found on the west coast of the island, just a ten-minute drive from Skopelos Town.
