Oia Santorini

Oia,  is located at the north-westernmost part of the Island of Santorini. Unfortunately, a good part of the town suffered destruction after an earthquake in 1956.

But it still boasts beautiful narrow passageways with homes and enticing restaurants that are carved into the niches of the mountains.

On the Island of Santorini, you must visit Oia, the most popular village of all. Its sunset is world-renowned, and the picturesque village will never disappoint tourists. And that’s a guarantee!

Oia faces the seaward side, gaining lots of natural light that enhances its beautiful white and blue domed churches.

You can enjoy excursions on foot or by mule, and take boat trips around the entire island. Situated north on the island, it is actually about 11 km from Fira. Its location offers a spectacular view over the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni, and the island of Thirassia.

Besides incredible views of the volcano, Oia houses the Maritime Museum, which includes a small library, relics of a Venetian fortress, and numerous items of the area’s maritime life.

Oia is also known for its art galleries, thanks to artists who settled here. Walk down the 300 steps to Ammoudi, a small port where you’ll find boat excursion that take you to the island of Thirassia.

Don’t forget to work up an appetite and satisfy your taste buds with incredibly delicious fresh fish dishes that are offered in Oia’s numerous taverns.
